Nowadays concerning with the COVID-19 epidemic, when quarantine has been announced all over the world, we have positive changes in the environment․ Recently, self-cleaning of rivers, lakes and water basins has been registered in Armenia, the water quality has improved. We can see active movement a number of animal species in different parts of Armenia. We can notice such birds, which we rarely saw in the past.
Today plastic is a serious problem for flora and fauna. We can met a mass of plastic materials in the surface of rivers and lakes. Another problem for environment is mining, which emissions that not only harm animals but also contribute to the erosion and degradation of the land.
Today Armenia is facing with the problem of desertification. Armenia has also been a member of the Desertification Strategy Program since 1997, but serious investment has not been made in the state budget for this sector. Mostly, desertification is contributed not only by the arid and mountainous climate of our region, but also with grazing animals, the wrong agricultural strategy, the misuse of water resources, and the bad attitude of man. The desertification mostly in the Ararat valley, Armavir and Aragatsotn regions.
The problem of garbage is also urgent in Armenia. Often, garbage is burning in most landfills, causing serious problems. Unfortunately, we still don’t have special garbage processing plants in Armenia.
One of the serious problems in Armenia is poaching, the exploitation of wild animals. The experts of Civil Voice NGO raised up this issue for many times, saying that the RA Law on “Animal World” needs to be revised.
